About this book

The novel moves between two times. In the past, a thirteen-year-old boy in Crystal Palace, South London, forms a close bond with his new neighbour, a recently widowed young teacher. Their friendship, born of loneliness, ends in a betrayal that leaves a lasting mark.

In the present, Detective Inspector Gemma James returns to work while her husband, Detective Superintendent Duncan Kincaid, stays home with their young foster daughter. She leads a Murder Investigation Team in South London with her colleague Melody Talbot, newly promoted to detective sergeant. Their first case is a seedy hotel in Crystal Palace, where a well-respected barrister has been found dead, bound and apparently strangled.

This is the fifteenth book in the Kincaid and James series. William Morrow published it in 2013.ISBN-13: 9780061990632.
