About this book

Few original publications of the 1930s on this subject survive, and the posthumous 1962 volume issued in the Soviet Union had a very small print run. The publisher says the work of Moshe Beregovski has survived and is now available to English readers for the first time.

According to the catalogue text, Beregovski was both a member of the Jewish community and an ethnomusicologist working in prewar Russia. The book brings his research on Jewish folk music to English-speaking readers.

Edition note: published by University of Pennsylvania Press. ISBN-13 9780812278330.
