The Sources of Christian Ethics

Servais Pinckaers’ study of moral theology was first published in French in 1985, from University Press Fribourg, under the title Les sources de la morale chrétienne. It has been translated into Spanish, Italian and Polish, and this is its first English version, with a new preface.

The book returns to the Gospel and the Holy Spirit as the foundations of Christian ethics. It examines the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount as the core of Christian moral teaching, and considers the writings of St Paul.

The historical sweep runs from the early Church through the medieval period, the Reformation and the twentieth century, with a comparison of Protestant and Catholic perspectives. Edition: third. Published by Catholic University of America Press. ISBN-13: 9780813208183.
