Understanding Civil War

A seminal analysis of civil war in Africa, revised and expanded with new case studies. In recent years, the Collier-Hoeffler model has sparked debate on the relationship between conflict and development. Understanding Civil War applies this model to 15 countries, using case studies to refine economic models of civil war. This volume demonstrates that the "greed" versus "grievance" debate is too simplistic.
