The collection draws on critical social theory, research on globalisation and neoliberalism, and Malaysian studies to examine how education reform in Malaysia has been shaped by global and local forces. The Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 serves as the case study, the catalyst and the context for the discussion.
The authors look at the interplay of neoliberalism, nationalism and ethnic and cultural politics, and at the enduring but changing hierarchy of access to educational and economic opportunities. They also examine how inequities have been reconfigured across different educational spaces and how reform policies have tried to address them.
The volume is intended to inform critical assessment of the Blueprint and related policies, and it has wider relevance to policy debate elsewhere. Cynthia Joseph edits the collection.
