About this book

Visions of Deliverance traces how Muslim and crypto-Muslim apocalyptic texts, called joferes, circulated across the early modern Mediterranean. Mayte Green-Mercado follows them through networks of merchants, Sufis and other channels that linked Muslims and Christians.

The trail starts in Constantinople and Venice and ends in the Morisco communities of eastern Spain. The author shows how prophecies that began at the eastern end of the sea reached its western edge, and what that movement reveals about the politics of prophecy.
