Bloodstone is the eleventh book in Paul Doherty's Brother Athelstan series. The opening is set in December 1380, when Sir Robert Kilverby's corpse turns up behind a locked door. Brother Athelstan goes along with the King's coroner to look into the death, since Sir Robert had owned a precious relic, a sacred bloodstone, which has now gone missing.
The central question is whether Sir Robert died of natural causes or was murdered. Athelstan doubts the rumours of a curse hanging over the dead man, but his view changes when a second elderly former soldier is found slain on the same night. The case turns on a missing relic, a sealed room and a web of old suspicions.
Severn House published the novel in 2011. It runs to 240 pages. ISBN-13: 9781780290164.
