About this book

This collected volume introduces the term ‘Spätrenaissance-Philosophie’, or late Renaissance philosophy, for the intellectual currents in Germany that lasted into the middle of the seventeenth century. Their thinkers saw themselves as heirs of the Renaissance, above all of its Italian strand.

These thinkers combined Renaissance speculation with Lutheran and Reformed school metaphysics. Thirteen case studies by researchers examine the breadth of this process across metaphysics and anthropology, and show how these currents blended humanism, confessional debates and occult traditions.
