The volume is about the landforms of the Carpatho-Balkan-Dinaric region. It grows out of the work of a regional working group that brings researchers together and encourages them to share experience. After a short introduction to the region's geology, climate, hydrology and land cover, the book turns to the geomorphic processes that have been shaping its surface in recent times.
Contributors describe both traditional and newer techniques of study and summarise current knowledge of the exogenic processes that act on the land. Chapters on eleven countries examine how processes have shaped each country's topography, from Macedonia and Bulgaria in the south to Poland in the north. Other chapters examine processes that affect land use and economic activity, and how climate change may alter them.
The volume will be most useful to geomorphologists, physical geographers and planners working in central and south-eastern Europe. Edition note: published by Springer in 2012, 462 pages, ISBN-13: 9789400724471.
